CrossFit – Movements that model daily living movements in some form!

February 28th, 2013 § 0 comments § permalink

Celebrities have incentives to lose weight since their careers and their million-dollar contracts depend a great deal on their physical appearance, or at least, according to how Hollywood defines physical beauty. Regular people do not have the same budget for a fitness or diet program.

Celebrities often spend thousands of dollars to hire their own personal trainer, personal chef, nutritionist, and other support staff. However, in a good CrossFit Box environment, the crossfit community will motivate you to follow your fitness routine and diet plan.

Regular people usually workout on their own or just receive a few instructions during the first few days at the gym. And because CrossFit is highly scalable and modifiable to each unique individual, it is like you are having your own personal trainer.

Whenever we eat food with large amounts of fat or sugar, these are absorbed by the body through the intestines. People with irregular schedules or no exercise at all tend to retain the fat and sugars in their bodies. Having no opportunity to shed the excess fat, these people eventually gain weight by having no control over the amount and content of food they consume.

Indeed, not everybody was born to become a Hollywood superstar. But everyone can manage how and what they eat. Not all people have the opportunity to have a seven-figure salary or become famous around the world. But everyone can set aside time to exercise and keep one’s self fit. By keeping fit, we all can be stars in terms of our health.

CrossFit, as Ross (owner of a usa crossfit box) described, is an approach to fitness that is more functional training, with weight lifting, kettle ball training and more, with movements that model daily living movements in some form.

Improve your active daily living through CrossFit!

February 21st, 2013 § 0 comments § permalink

It is common scenario for people to never complete a diet program they initially took with the goal of trimming up after calories and fats were collected from a bad lifestyle. Similarly, it is common for people to start using home fitness equipment and then leaving the machine up collecting dust at the corner because they have forgotten it.

Why not all people can stick to what they primarily embarked upon to improve their physical and health aspect?

#1 It is because of the lack of discipline.

#2 Focus was directed elsewhere maybe due to boredom, lack of determination and goal.

#3 The lack of proper diet and fitness program – a carefully planned fitness routine which you can utilize to easily see your direction and accountability of every result.

If you are in the same boat, you are probably looking once again for another program where you think you can put your focus on for a long time and thus gives you realistic results of keeping yourself in tip top shape, both physical and inner health. Come try out CrossFit, in doing so you have the chance to succeed in your goal, the crossfit community at CrossFit Hub will help you have the discipline, the right program, focus and determination.

Make CrossFit your lifetime resolution. Think of the long term benefits and think how it can give you a lifelong health and physical fitness. Think how it will be easier for you to live life as you age. That’s how a fitness and diet program should be. Long term goals are often easier and lighter to follow than fitness programs for short term effects.

It is not necessary to spend hours and hours working out. A mere 30-45 minutes a day is enough to keep you fit and in shape. And remember that it doesn’t have to be with exercise equipment or machine. CrossFit WOD can get your muscles working out without the usual equipment that you see in traditional gym!

And this is the most important – eat healthily, rest properly, and avoid getting into disastrous vices such as smoking and drinking. You don’t have to eat fancy, healthy foods which you cannot easily prepare for some reasons. And you don’t have to be strict with this aspect.

Also, consider this goal as a gift to your family and loved ones. Taking care of yourself is an ultimate act that tells you actually care for them. It gives them less of the worries, lesser expenses on medical bills, and the likes. Plus, being healthy, fit, and active means you can give more time to bond with them by engaging in family physical activities.

“CrossFit has it figured out,” said Melanie Wheeler of bitterroot crossfit said. “We have 14-year-old boys to 60-year-old women and 72-year-old men.”

All have different overall goals, they all have one common goal of doing the same workout!

Find out what you are capable of through CrossFit!

Look at your average corporate worker bee, a.k.a. – corporate slave. How are they benefitting from a world that is falling apart in terms of health, quality of life, and physical fitness?

You guessed it – they are not! They are stuck behind their desks, in their warehouses, out on their job sites, and strapped to their paychecks. They barely know and certainly do not take action about the fact that a health and wellness revolution is literally happening all around them, every minute of every day.

The point is that our world is literally on the brink of the most incredible health and fitness revolution that has ever happened – or will likely ever happen again.

Only those individuals who act now by utilizing “out of the box” thinking can truly improve their own health and quality of life. When you have good health, and a strong and fit body, you get to enjoy Life to its fullest!

Miller, a stay-at-home mommy crossfitter, said CrossFit gives her a sense of accomplishment and builds her self-confidence.

“I never thought I could do a pull-up on my own,” she said. “I never thought I could do a head-stand push-up, I never thought I could dead lift over 200 pounds. Here it just naturally comes from all the workouts and everybody helping you and encouraging you.”

Every day you see people getting better,” she said. “People push themselves to find out what they’re capable of, and that trickles into all parts of their lives.”

Do you know Jason Statham lost 35 pounds in 2005 through CrossFit using only 35 minutes a day, 6 days a week??

CrossFit is about going back to your basic movements!

February 6th, 2013 § 0 comments § permalink

People have become conscious of their body image that they are willing to go through the extra mile just to achieve that sculptured body. Almost every fitness buff wants to achieve the same figure displayed by models in the pages of the magazines, on billboards, on television, and on movie screens.

People try to find sensible and sustainable ways to achieve and maintain a physically fit body. Yet what is often overlooked is the need to take care of another important aspect of their well-being: their emotional health.

By engaging in CrossFit programs, it keeps you self-empowered! It teaches you why and how to adapt to changes – in life and in work. When you are self-empowered, you are emotionally healthy. Emotionally healthy people honor their emotions, which empowers them to fulfill their goals.  You are also more sensitive to other people and their emotions and having the ability to empathize. The ability to identify their own emotions enables emotionally healthy people to identify emotions in others and to have an intuitive sense of what it feels like to experience them. In addition, emotionally healthy people are in touch with their emotions and can identify and acknowledge them as experience.

Having a balanced life – investing in a regular fitness routine, engaging in spiritual activity, commitment to your family, and work will likely give you an enhanced sense of well-being which helped reduce your levels of stress.

Having a healthy mind and spirit go well with a healthy body. Emotional health is considered an integral part of man’s overall wellness. Neglecting your emotional health can damage your physical health in the process. Research has shown that one of the leading contributors to illness is stress caused by unresolved emotional issues.

“CrossFit basically mimics life,” Mirasol of CrossFit York said. “Everything that we do in the real world – running, lifting, pushing, pulling, climbing, throwing jumping. All those movements are replicated here.”

The gym is minimalist. “We’re going back to our basic movements,” Mirasol said. “You are the support structure. You’re lifting something, and it’s not supported by a chain or a rail. It mimics nature.”

Total Body Workout – Gaining Strength

February 6th, 2013 § 0 comments § permalink

It’s a fact, most people are becoming obese at an alarming rate. Many people are eating more (and more of the wrong stuff) and exercising less or getting no exercise at all. Our health is in steep decline and doctor and hospital visits are at all time highs. Just a brisk 30-45 minute workout a day can begin to turn that around.

You name it, we have it, and it’s getting worse. Heart and cardiovascular disease, high blood pressure, stroke, out of control blood sugar levels, diabetes, obesity, and more. The U.S. Surgeon General recommends getting at least 20-30 minutes of moderate activity each day and many of us are falling far short of even that.

Learn more about this life saving, life changing program of CrossFit. The information is abundant. CrossFit focuses a lot on  technique and form, and mobility exercises to increase flexibility.

Said DuBois of CrossFit Defined:

“Fitness can be for all walks of life, all ages,” he said.
CrossFit isn’t so much a gym as it is an approach a program that combines a variety of movements aimed at developing endurance, strength, speed and agility.

“You could call it a methodology if you like.” DuBois described CrossFit as a response to traditional “mundane, lackluster” workouts that emphasize a single muscle group or a repetitive cardio routine.

“People come in here a hot mess. The worst are the runners … They’re fantastic at running a straight line” but are otherwise weak.”

61 year old woman CrossFitter!

February 4th, 2013 § 0 comments § permalink

One of the most honest assessments for most of us is that we’re procrastinators. We’ll delay and wait for as long as possible especially if what needs done are lifestyle changes. Take for example the need for more exercise and incorporating fitness into our lifestyle.

We’re a nation of people that sign up at the local health clubs, buy all the expensive equipment then proceed to go round and round the parking lot looking for a close spot so we don’t have to walk so far. Come on, you know that’s true! Who hasn’t seen people at all stores traveling the equivalent of several miles looking for that just right close parking spot.

Seriously, here are a few ideas that can help get all of us and our families back into some shape other than “round”

1 Explain the difference between healthy and not so healthy food choices but DO NOT NAG. The idea is to make better choices most of the time not be perfect!

2 Prepare healthy meals. Quit the burger and taco runs and calling that dinner. One of the biggest problems with our diets isn’t that we eat to much but that it’s the wrong kind of foods. And those wrong kind of foods are in most cases sold by corporate conglomerates looking for profits not a healthy customer.

3. Never use food as a reward. If food is a big part of some outing, (popcorn at the theater) start to change that behavior by having other, more healthy snacks available. Our family would buy candy and oil laden popcorn at the movies and still do but in much smaller quantities. We lower the amount of the bad foods by bringing in bags of those small baby carrots to munch on. It’s now preferred by many of the kids and are considered a movie snack!

4. When you can walk to do something, do it. Don’t just get into the car to go a couple of blocks.

5. Choose a fitness methodology that will fit into your lifestyle! Choose CrossFit!

A CrossFit trainer can go a long way to helping with ideas like these. Interview trainers and look for one that’s not interested in changing your world overnight. The best CrossFit trainer is one who sees the progress and works to see those little successes turn into major lifestyles changes.

Resolved to Get Fit, A Tough and Fit 63 Year Old!

WHY I DID IT: I knew that if I continued down the path I was on, I might not be around for my wife and children for too much longer. My wife’s father passed away when she was 12 due to poor eating habits, stress and obesity. I didn’t want history to repeat itself. Additionally, I felt like garbage every day of my life. Aches and pains had become the norm. I had no energy, and I got sick looking at myself in family pictures. When my waistline blew up to a 46, it was somewhat difficult to find clothes.

HOW I DID IT: I had been doing CrossFit since July 2008, and had managed to yo-yo with my weight a few times. I went from 315 down to 255 or so, then back up to the 300s again, and down to the 270s. After moving from South Tampa to Carrollwood, I tried to continue doing CrossFit at my old gym, but the commute was just too much. So my wife and I decided we would join CrossFit Jaguar. On Jan. 15, 2011, my life was forever changed when I sat in a nutritional seminar at CrossFit Jaguar. Paula Jager taught about the Paleo/Primal diet. I was blown away and had quite a few “yeah, right” moments. It was so contrary to the stuff you learn about nutrition, both through reading and even from your doctor. For instance, “fat doesn’t make you fat”; you can’t eat grains; and as long as the source is good, bacon is actually good for you. But I figured that I had tried everything else, so why not? Following the Paleo lifestyle, I ate heartily, found a new passion for cooking and went from 297.5 to 232 by May 15. I also became addicted to CrossFit. I went from two to three days per week, to sometimes twice per day.

“The lotus is the most beautiful flower, whose petals open one by one. But it will only grow in the mud. In order to grow and gain wisdom, first you must have the mud — the obstacles of life and its suffering. … The mud speaks of the common ground that humans share, no matter what our stations in life. … Whether we have it all or we have nothing, we are all faced with the same obstacles: sadness, loss, illness, dying and death. If we are to strive as human beings to gain more wisdom, more kindness and more compassion, we must have the intention to grow as a lotus and open each petal one by one. ”

CrossFit – a COMPLETE Workout for any Lifestyle!

January 21st, 2013 § 0 comments § permalink

(Through CrossFit, these women are confident, stronger and fitter.
They are mothers, tomboys, coaches. They are CrossFit athletes.)

With every new year comes new trends. whether it be in fashion, music or workout styles. For 2012, the workout style of CrossFit took gyms by storm, and it’s high-jumped its way right into 2013 as one of the most popular workout choices.

Weights, high energy and team support are just some of the many aspects of CrossFit.

“At a high intensity, we try to take people beyond their comfort zone, vs. the global gym, where everyone’s just kind of working out on their own in a comfort state,” said Carrie Coe, a CrossFit instructor for four years.

The hour long class at Xcel Fitness in Bend is broken down into four parts: warm-up, challenge, play and workout of the day.

“We do a lot of fun skills. We learn specific movements for forms and accuracy.” said Coe. “Then, the last part of the class is the actual workout.”

Coe says the workout portion of the class can last as little as five minutes or up to 20. She says her goal of this section is to get her students to give it everything they’ve got.

“I like the actual someone in here pushing you,” said CrossFit competitor Ashley Coey.

The fast-paced class is also the perfect way to get a complete workout for any lifestyle.

“I’m a professional and a mom of two,” said CrossFit student Jennifer Boone. “I’ve worked out my whole life ,doing a variety of things — and never, ever have I, well first of all had this much fun, and never gotten the results like I get in here.”

CrossFit is also perfect for people of any age.

“Anyone can do it. There’s a guy here who’s 70, and he does it,” said Virgil Askren, a CrossFit student of eight months. “You just do it to the best of your ability. All the coaches are really good about scaling it down or modifying it, and making sure it’s doable for you. “

Coe says the hardest part of the class is walking through the door, but she says once you start and begin to see results and build bonds, you’ll never want to quit.

“You have to just come and try it once,” said Coe. “It’s not only the workout — it’s the people, its having a great time, it’s leaving this room feeling great about yourself.”

They happen to break you down and build you up
